Ming-Kahuna in Action

The Elitist Snob (TES) took a much needed vacation on an extended weekend in October.  It was a fantastic opportunity to smoke, drink, eat, play, and generally schmooze with my good friend, Art Ruppelt, and his wonderful family.  Along the way, we discovered some new ideas and some new directions.  Something was certainly in the air that weekend as we played our way into serendipity. Please feel free to visit Art's Ming-Kahuna web site at www.ming-kahuna.com.

After a long bout with creative block, Art grabbed the ideas that we cooked up and started sketching on a pristine piece of Caneel
Yep, a simple Bic ball point pen to rough out the designs we had come up with...
Onto the band saw to rough cut the material...
Hard to imagine that these handfuls of material will eventually turn into many tampers.
Of course, all great creative types do their best work sans footwear...
TES has always eschewed footwear, so I was right at home!
Coarse shaping with the Dremel...
It's hard to tell, kids, but Art IS wearing protective eyewear. This is an absolute must!
With steady and patient work using the Dremel, the tamper starts to resemble the mind's eye image...
...hmm, never had to deal with these inside corners before. That TES is a pain in the ass! Have to try a different tool...
And more shaping with the sanding drum...
Art inspects the progress to this point and is beginning to think that at least one of us has lost his mind.  It is coming out nice, though...
Time to start sanding by hand. This is the process that takes so long...
Sanding is boring. So let's drill the hole for the logo set...
A close-up of the logo hole being drilled on Art's creation.
Here's Art showing what not to do with your hands and a spinning drill press...
Some rough shaping of a Nautica shape that Art is making for TES in Glacier Bay.
A little bit closer shot. Hard to imagine that this stuff winds up being the final product you see on Art's web site.
Buffing up a little Skeeter in Bane... and polishing Art's thumb, too!
Putting the final touches on a Whirligig that I had ordered in Van Gogh...
Coming soon... This was most certainly an amazing experience!
